Journaling has taken on many forms over the years most of them art related.  And while I find it admirable to have such a beautiful and creative outlet, I must confess to worrying that it’s lost its therapeutic value.

Putting pen to paper brings a level of clarity that cannot be expressed in any other way.  Once you summon the courage that’s needed to write about something that’s extremely difficult in your life the process unfolds over the period of time that you are writing.  What begins as a question ultimately finds its answer in a very beneficial way.  I cannot count the number of times that this has taken place in my life.

Today for example I found myself at home due to back pain and wondering why after experiencing such pain I continued to push myself.  The answer is that as women we have preconceived notions of how our homes must appear.  This belief reflects our value and self-worth and is true regardless of marital status.  And so even though I was in pain I continued to clean and paid the price as a result.  Here are a few “hard things” in life you may need to write about:

  • Anger
  • Celibacy
  • Comparison
  • Forgiveness
  • Jealousy
  • Meditation
  • People Pleasing
  • Perfectionism
  • Relationships
  • Taking control of your finances
  • Writing for publication

Consider this journal writing prompt a BONUS.  Enjoy the journey…
